Baking is in the genes of Baking Me Crazy’s owner Samantha.
As a toddler Samantha would stand on a chair and help her mom bake cookies and muffins. Needing her own creative outlet, Samantha received her own Little Tyke’s kitchen for Christmas one year, complete with baking trays, a rolling pin, apron, oven mitts and plastic ingredients. She would spend hours creating her own delicacies that often included dirt and flowers from outside.
When not in her own kitchen, Samantha could be found helping her mom scoop and measure and she was always available to lick the beaters!
As a teenager, Samantha would bake for her friends and family and loved to gift treats to others. She was very artistic and would often do the decorating on family birthday cakes and cookies.
But baking goes back even further in Samantha’s family, her great-grandmother, Jessie, was the baker in their family restaurant in North Vancouver called the Tomahawk. Opened in 1926, and still a famous spot for burgers and breakfasts, Jessie was the pie baker at the Tomahawk.
Getting up at the crack of dawn, using only the freshest ingredients, Jessie would bake all sorts of pies, everything from apple to lemon meringue selling each piece for a nickel. Every day she would be sold out and would get up and do it all over again, just like her great-granddaughter Samantha.
In 2019, Samantha took a chance and left her office job to follow her passion and be a home baker. She could be found at all the local markets selling her delicious macarons and other yummy treats. But then COVID hit, and markets were shut down and Samantha wanted to find a way to continue to sell her delicious baked goods.
In 2021 Samantha opened Baking Me Crazy located at 8111 100th Avenue in Fort St. John and like her great grandmother, she is at the bakery at the crack of dawn making cinnamon buns, muffins, cookies and more. Pop in and get yourself some of her delicious treats.
